While having dinner, images of MMDA big shots destroying sidewalk vendor stalls, once again, flashed on television. Grrrr! How could they do something like that so easily? Earlier today, we had Law of Mass Media with Sir Chally. He was talking about how one can be deprived of life, liberty and property with due process. The example he gave on loss of property was about the squatters who are relocated from their homes. Apparently, these people are given a notice of the "eviction" and are even given just compensation. Even if they are illegally living on the land in question.
And so I asked about sidewalk vendors. While there may be a law against illegal... what do you call it... "stationing" of said sidewalk carts, were they given due notice? According to one of those MMDA guys, they did issue out a warning before the raid. However, I don't think that these hardworking men and women are being given compensation. What's worse is that the MMDA guys destroy their only means of generating income right before their eyes. Some even reportedly steal money from the vendors!
It's not only their carts that are being destroyed but their spirit. Sir Chally said that there should always be a balance. Are these MMDA fuckers just doing their job or are they already encroaching on other people's rights?
By the way, I think Bayani Fernando's posters are really silly-looking. - Tags:politics

Anyway, I don't know about the vendors. But, if I'd believe what I learned about the issuance of notices, the vendors should've found a way to comply with what is being wanted of them, since what they're doing is illegal. On the other hand, the MMDA's way to "discipline" these people is not right at all. Those people have their rights too, right?
But, we don't really know the story behind these. So, i-IJ na lang. Hahaha!
